About Hewlett-Packard (HP):
In 1934 HP derived its name from its founders Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard,
two Stanford University friends. Their modest company headquarters, located
in a garage in Palo Alto, California was the birthplace of their first
popular invention, the 200A audio oscillator. In the forties HP continued as
innovators by moving into the microwave field with signal generators for the
military. By 1966 HP engineers its first computer, the HP2116A, which
cemented HP as a leading computing company. Maintaining its momentum from
previous decades, HP becomes known for its computers, portable computers,
and powerful minicomputers in the eighties. With so much success in
computers the nineties was a continuation of efforts to bring computing not
just to big businesses, but to the home. In 1993 HP introduces the HP
OmniBook 300, a super minicomputer that had a battery life of about 5 hours.
In an effort expand the HP corporation, in 2002 it completes its merger with
