About Compaq:
Founded by Rod Canion, Jim Harris, and Bill Murto the Compaq Computer
Corporation showcased its first product, the portable personal computer, in
1982. By 1983 Compaq shipped 53,000 portable PCs. Part of its popularity was
it was compatible with IBM's software. In order to accomplish 100%
compatibility Compaq had to create its own BIOS that was not identical to
IBM's. It wasn't until a year after the premier of its first laptop that
Compaq came out with its first desktop. From the earliest moments Compaq saw
the importance of offering consumers portable computing. In order to expand
the company, in 2002 Compaq merged with Hewlett-Packard. However, laptops
and desktops are still sold under the Compaq brand. Compaq's laptop models
include the Evo, Contura, Business Notebook, Armada, Prosignia, Presario,
