About Acer:
The microprocessor was one of the biggest inventions of the seventies.
Seeing the potential and significance of the microprocessor inspired the
founding of Acer, the Taiwan based company, in 1976. Although making many
advancements with the microprocessors in the eighties Acer did not
aggressively hit the global marketplace until 1997 when it opened Acer
America. What took Acer globally? It was the invention of Chipup,
which enabled the microprocessor to become a replaceable part. Now consumers
were able to purchase a personal computer (PC) and replace its parts versus
purchasing an entirely new PC every year or two when a newer model hit the
market. Another invention that brought Acer into the global marketplace was
the Acer Aspire PC. Currently, Acer has a variety of laptop computers
including the AcerNote, AcerNote Light, Extensa, TravelMate, and Tablet PC
